(CANBY) - Residents in Canby reported hearing two gunshots and a vehicle driving away at 1:49 AM Monday morning at 282 S Knott Street.

Canby Police officers responding to the report of a drive by shooting recovered three rounds from the apartment. Two rounds were located inside the apartment lodged in a couch and a third round was located lodged in a step near the front door.

They say nobody was injured in the shooting. The residents reported that the couch is where a person usually sleeps at night, but the individual was not there when the shots rang out.

The apartment, which has ties to the Norteno Gang, was believed to have been targeted as retaliation for a beating involving a rival gang member a few days before.

The investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Canby Police at 503 266-1104.

Police prefer your approach, while many, if not most, journalists will tell you that public knowledge by name-and-reputation will bring more working contact to kill off gangs, if not their perpetrators.

I thought it was bad practice to print gang names in the news. I noticed other news agencies have used the gang's name too - so I could be wrong. I just thought it was like giving the gang recognition they shouldn't get.
