Police Arrest Multi-State Fraud and Scam Suspect

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - An alert employee at an area casino is credited with recognizing a man wanted in several states and by several area law enforcement agencies for numerous fraud cases and investigations. The suspect is now in custody.

42-year old Eric Alan Lloyd was wanted by police for his alleged involvement in operating several theft and fraud scams by visiting businesses and homeowners soliciting monies allegedly for area charities and non-profit organizations.

Lloyd reportedly has a history of soliciting cash donations for local youth sports activities, local clubs and organizations, according to Sgt. Tim Weaver of the Newberg-Dundee Police Department. "Often he claimed the donations would include advertising for tournament bulletin boards and programs. He took only cash or check for the donations, wrote a receipt and promised some benefit from the donation."

Donations ranged from $20-200 from businesses and individuals, Weaver said. "The requested monies were kept relatively low to keep anyone suspicions of his scam. The checks were often written to an alias, 'J. Lloyd,' apparently the name of Lloyd's mother, or to another alias he was working at the time."

Weaver says Lloyd was spotted by an employee at Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, who identified him from area news reports. Lloyd was arrested a short time later by a Yamhill County deputy and driven to McMinnville.

Lloyd was wanted by Newberg-Dundee Police for at least four fraud cases. He is also being held on warrants from Washington, Clackamas and Josephine counties in Oregon, and two from Benton (Kennewick), and Grant (Ephrata) counties in Washington.

Back in Oregon, other cases are pending in Woodburn and Stayton in Marion County, and Pullman, Washington. Lloyd also has three warrants for him for similar activities in Colorado, and one in Nebraska. Extradition on those warrants has not been arranged.

Eric Lloyd was held at the Yamhill County Corrections Facility, McMinnville, for $43,500 bail on the Yamhill, Washington and Josephine county warrants and the Washington state warrants.
