Oregon Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

He is one of two soldiers that came into contact with rocket propelled grenades, machine gun and small arms fire.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. One of them is an Oregonian.

Sergeant Joshua C. Brennan, 22, of Ontario, Oregon and Specialist Hugo V. Mendoza, 29, of Glendale, Arizona, died of wounds sustained when they came in contact with enemy forces in Korengal Valley, Afghanistan.

The Army announced that they came into contact with rocket propelled grenades, machine gun and small arms fire during the combat operations on October 25th.

The soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy.
