(KEIZER) - McNary High School Athletic Director Michael Maghan Friday announced the retirement of Head Football Coach Tom Smythe effective at the conclusion of the 2006 season.

Smythe leaves McNary after 12 seasons; the longest tenure of any previous McNary football head coach.

He led the Celtics to five league championships (96’, 97’, 98’, 02’, and 05’) and two State Championships (1997 & 2001).

His 260 wins rank him in the top five for football coaches in Oregon High School history.

After 41 years of coaching (29 in HS: Lake Oswego/Lakeridge/McNary)

Smythe is retiring and looking at other options Maghan said.
