(GERVAIS, Ore.) - It was a bad call to say the least, and a Gervais dad’s apparent attempt to keep his teenage son from being arrested by a police officer is likely to land him behind bars for a long time.

Oregon laws, like in many states, are particularly stringent when it comes to physically assaulting police.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says shortly before 5:00 PM Wednesday, an officer with the Gervais Police Department was attempting to make contact with a teenager at 880 4th St in Gervais as part of a criminal investigation involving a 15-year-old male that lives there.

Rau says the officer made contact with the juvenile at the door, “but when the officer told the juvenile he was under arrest the young man ran back into the house.”

As the officer attempted to catch the young man, his father, 43-year-old Javier Beltran, allegedly began assaulting the officer, causing minor injuries.

The officer was able to get out of the house and call for assistance. Officer from the Gervais Police Department, Woodburn Police Department, Hubbard Police Department, Oregon State Police and Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.

The Sheriff’s Office Interagency SWAT team was called to the scene as a precaution. Rau says that once contact was made with the occupants of the house, all came out of the house when instructed to do so and complied with directions given by SWAT team members.

Beltran was arrested for Assaulting and Interfering with a Public Safety Officer.

His 15-year-old son was arrested for attempted escape and resisting arrest as well as charges from the previous ongoing investigation into the theft of a car.

The officer was transported to Silverton Hospital by medics where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

I don't believe the cop was inappropriate. These are former relatives who I believe broke into my own house, Martha's sisters house. Her family has a troubled past and I don't believe anything the Beltran's say. People who don't actually know these liars shouldn't speak on their behalf. I know they lie.

Where is the officer at now that had made the arrest and that was apparently assualted?

This story is an absolute, flat-out LIE. I know the Beltran family well, and the mother Martha was there. The son, Jesse came home, walked in through the side door. A man dressed in normal street clothes came in behind him, tackled Jesse and wrestled with him. He DID NOT identify himself as a police officer, DID NOT say why he was there or what the boy was under arrest for. Javier, his father, reacted as any parent would if they see an intruder attack their child. He grabbed the man and threw him off Jesse. The man hit himself of the cupboard behind him, got up, shoved Jesse's 2-year-old nephew out of the way, and bolted out the door. He got into a police cruiser, and drove off. We suppose this was when he went to the hospital and told a fairy tale about how this crazy family attacked a police officer for no good reason. Calling in everyone upon this poor family. Because let's face it, who would believe them? The Beltran family went to court and the whole case was (can you believe it?) dropped. These are good people, and I know they would not lie about something like this. Jesse was attacked, and Javier defended him. THAT is the truth.
