(CHICAGO) - The French sex kitten, Brigitte Bardot, who was the darling of Europe and American audiences during the 1950s and 1960s has stunned the European press with her announcement she may seek to become the president of France. The Independent Ecology Alliance Party—a French political party that supports the green movement and are adamant animal rights activists—have petitioned the former screen actress to make a bid for the presidency and challenge Sarkozy. Earlier, the current president of France had incensed the famous actress because she felt his reaction to her position against Muslim customs made her an idiot in his eyes. The French press printed an open letter to Sarkozy. In the letter she declared: "Because you do the opposite of what you say, I am studying a proposition from the Independent Ecology Alliance to be their presidential candidate in 2012." The letter strongly stated her position and expressed her disappointment in Sarkozy's leadership. She further stated that "No matter whether it's someone from the political left or right, we just need a voice to stand up and defend animal rights." In the past, Sarkozy has promised to stop the abusive practice of the ritualistic killing of animals. The Muslim custom is to slit the throat of live animals and allow them to bleed to death. Bardot is adamantly opposed to such treatment and very upset that the president has gone back on his word to stop the practice. She has been championing a law that would make it compulsory that animals are treated with anesthetics before their throats are slit. Some Islamic groups are opposed to that as they believe it would violate the spirit of Islamic law. The feisty star is no stranger to controversy. She once observed that Sarkozy's wife was indeed beautiful, but had a poor upbringing. Her opposition to France's current immigration laws and laws permitting homosexuality have led her to court numerous times where she has been fined and threatened with prison. A fine of $24,000 was levied against her during a 2008 court case when she was found guilty of inciting racial hatred by writing a book that accusing immigrant Muslims of destroying her country. Many fellow countrymen were shocked by her announcement that she may seek the presidency in 2012 because less than a month ago the popular magazine FRANCE carried an interview with Bardot where she flatly stated that "I am greatly misunderstood by politically correct idiots. Politics disgusts me."
