Heavy Rain, Hail, and Thunderstorms Tonight in Mid-Valley

A Snow Advisory is in effect for the Oregon Cascades until 4:00 PM Saturday.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Rain showers and thunderstorms have begun spreading into northwest Oregon this afternoon and will continue through this evening.

Rain maybe heavy at times, with some ponding of water in drainage areas especially due to blocked drains.

Small hail is also likely, as well as gusty winds to near 30 MPH on the Oregon Coast and in the mid-Willamette Valley.

If you must drive in this weather, please slow down and allow extra braking distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect for the Oregon Coast until 5:00 PM on Saturday. A Snow Advisory is in effect for the Oregon Cascades until 4:00 PM Saturday.

Mid-Willamette Valley Forecast From Salem-News.com:

SHOWERS. A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE EVENING. LOWS AROUND 45. SOUTH WIND 10 TO 20 MPH.

SATURDAY:
SHOWERS. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS AROUND 55. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 TO 15 MPH. GUSTS TO 25 MPH IN THE MORNING.

SATURDAY NIGHT:
MOSTLY CLOUDY. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE EVENING...THEN A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AFTER MIDNIGHT. LOWS 40 TO 45. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 TO 15 MPH.

MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF RAIN. HIGHS 55 TO 60. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 TO 10 MPH.

WOW. Just before 2pm the sky lit up and a rolling peal of thunder following a sharp crack made it seem like the mother of all lightning bolts had struck within feet of my home! During this was the sound of SERIOUS sheets of rain pouring down. I would not have wanted to be outside in that! Ah well...
