(SALEM) - The Salem Public Library is looking for the best local bands for its 2nd annual Battle of the Bands competition.

The event was a sell-out show in 2005, giving six area bands excellent exposure and a chance to win new fans.

Applications are available now at www.salemlibrary.org or at any library service desk. Completed applications, a $20 non-refundable application fee, and a recorded sample of each band's original music are due at the library no later than Friday, October 27th.

Six bands will be chosen for the Battle. The winner will be chosen by the decibel level of the audience reaction at the end of the night.

The winner will be featured in a showcase performance to conclude the 2006-07 Library concert series on April 6th, 2007, and earns a prize package that includes:

A copy of the showcase performance on CD

Eight hours of recording time donated by Happy Fun Time Recording in Salem

An on-air interview with Matt Richards at KSND 95.1 FM radio

Tickets are $5 in advance/$7 at the door. Sales begin Friday, October 20th at all Library Circulation Desks.
