Albany Traffic Accident Requires Fire Department to Rescue Occupant from a Pickup Truck in Periwinkle Creek

(ALBANY, Ore.) - The Albany Fire Department responded to the 1500 block of Pacific Blvd. SE at 10:10 a.m. today to a reported motor vehicle accident with a vehicle in Periwinkle Creek. Firefighters arrived at scene within approximately two minutes to find that a pickup truck with a single occupant had left the roadway and come to rest upright about 15 to 20 feet down in the creek bed in approximately one foot of water.

Firefighters immediately stabilized the vehicle, removed the top of the cab, and worked with specialized tools for about 14 to 16 minutes to extricate the occupant. One person was evaluated at the scene and transported to the hospital. No other injuries resulted from this incident.

Seventeen Fire Department personnel initially responded to the emergency call, who also took precautions to control the release of any vehicle fluids into Periwinkle Creek. Albany Police and Public Works Department personnel also responded to assist
