(GERVAIS, Ore.) - A late evening fire Monday left a family of 7 without a home. Paul Iverson, Fire Marshal with the Woodburn Fire District, says fire crews were dispatched to a report of an attached carport on fire at 9:30 p.m. Monday evening.
"The first arriving engine called for a second alarm due to the fire extending into the home," Iverson said.
"The family of three adults and four children narrowly escaped the fire."
He says the occupants were all in bed when the mother heard something outside the structure.
"When she investigated she saw the carport fully engulfed in flames. She alerted the occupants and escaped the structure."
Iverson says the fire was brought under control at about 10:30 p.m., and reports that the structure was a total loss.
The Red cross is now assisting the family, contact your local Red Cross to help families like this one.
The Woodburn Fire District was assisted by Hubbard Fire, Mt angel and Marion County Fire District.
