(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - The Coalition of Oregon School Administrators has been named North Clackamas Superintendent Ron Naso Oregon Superintendent of the Year. The award will be presented on October 24th at the North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce Leadership Luncheon.

"Ron is an effective leader, and we're very fortunate to have him in the North Clackamas District," said School Board Chair Lee Merrick. "Over the past twelve years, Ron has put in a lot of effort to improve the education of tens of thousands of students."

Naso has been superintendent of North Clackamas Schools, which serves 17,300 students, since 1995. During that time, the number of students in the district has increased by 33%. He met the need to serve added students through the passage of two bond measures to build and renovate schools. The most recent, in November 2006, was the largest school bond in Oregon history.

Naso has worked to boost standards for every student, requiring every graduate to meet state standards and to complete a senior project.

"Ron Naso sees the entire picture for education," said Wilda Parks, President and CEO of the North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce. "He knows it doesn't exist in a box, and that community and commerce are parts of the equation."

Naso previously served as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum in Wichita, Kansas; Assistant Superintendent in Frederick County, Maryland; and Superintendent of Schools in Clearview, Ohio. He received his Master of Arts in Teaching from John Carroll University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Darmouth College.

Superintendent of the Year nominees are measured against the following criteria: leadership for learning, communication, professional development, and community involvement. Four national finalists will be chosen from among the 50 state winners to meet with the President in Washington, D.C.
