(SCAPPOOSE, Ore. ) - Police are investigating a shooting that involved an off-duty police officer. According to police the incident began around 2:30 AM, when neighbors called police and said a man, thought to be a prowler, was armed with a handgun and screaming in the street near Northwest Felisha Way and Maria Lane in Scappoose. Police said when the arrived on scene, they found a white man in his 40s holding a gun to his head. When police confronted the man, he ran to a nearby home and pounded on the door. The homeowner was Greg Stewart, an off-duty police officer from the Portland Police Bureau. Stewart opened the door and, after a brief confrontation, shot and killed the man. The deceased is identified as 42-year old Jeffrey Dean Turpin of Ocean Park, Washington. An autopsy will be performed this weekend or early next week. Police said the man was in his 40's, and not from the Scappoose area.

You know I've read peoples comments some people just don't know what there talking about, people you don't know what happened an keep blabbing ur mouth. The news feeds u a lot of bulls#$t you cant believe anything, they say they tell you stuff just to get you to read. I know what happened I'm his son and I know a lot more than all of you. I know things and I know if itsn' t for into grand jury were going after him with wrongful death trust me he's not going to away with what he did, come on, he shot through glass and shot him in his back. Come on stewart aren't you a man I thought police officers were supposed to be trained and I know for a fact he was endangered by people that were very dangerous and deadly and I think the cops know them too. I think stewart is a crook and all the neighbors can go to hell. Because s#$t think the cop shot my dad for a reason and that's to keep his mouth shut about something. I don't know what but something to do with a ex girlfriend that had connecting with deadly people so I think the cop needs to fess up because no other person would just get away with this s#$t he's a cop he has privileges the court look at him an laugh..thats the only reason i think theres going not to be a grand jury because he's a cop........ Ty, I'm really sorry about your dad and you have to work with us to get the facts straight if you will. Please email me at tim@salem-news.com.

Jeff was a great friend, lover and boyfriend until last November. He will be missed and mourned by those that really knew him. Jeff's son already lost his mom to cancer in 2003. Now Jeff's son has lost his dad, too. Thank you Portland cop for orphaning Tyler. And thank you Anita for bringing your bad habits into Jeff and Tyler's lives. Rest in Peace, Jeff.

Your facts seem inaccurate. From reports, the homeowner did not open the door, but shot the man through the glass beside his door.
