(ALBANY) - Two mid-valley Legislators want to re-open the Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility in Albany next year. State Senator Frank Morse, R-Albany, and Representative Andy Olsen, R-Albany, are proposing that the Oregon Youth Authority move 75 female youth offenders from Hillcrest in Salem and from the Corvallis House to Oak Creek. The move would free-up beds for boys to move from the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn to Hillcrest. Linn and Benton counties still operate a juvenile detention center at Oak Creek. Morse said he wasn’t sure yet exactly how much it will cost the OYA to operate the facility. Articles for October 3, 2006 | Articles for October 4, 2006 | Articles for October 5, 2006 | Quick Links

We are known by the company we keep and bad company corrupts good character. I hope I am an inspiration to good character.

Halsey, Where are you?
Albert Marnell October 8, 2006 8:35 am (Pacific time)
Eddie, I know that I am anal(too clean and perfectionistic), but not banal. By the way, the question that I asked this morning about the rapist on one of the top stories of the morning was not a poke of fun at you. I really think that you can give an intelligent response. The question is what makes a guy do something like that?
Albert Marnell October 8, 2006 8:22 am (Pacific time)
I have learned something from you Eddie. I hope you feel good about it. I do not say this to many people.
Eddie October 8, 2006 3:16 am (Pacific time)
I guess I got a good side to get on but I won't let it go to my head. I have a hard time with discourtesy it consumes so much unnecessarily. If I were up against a physical threat, I would be violent but here in the chat room I find intellectual sanctuary. The only thing that disturbs me really is banality.

Eddie, You actually love me. You just do not know it yet. Too bad we can not talk more at length because I know as much as you have disdain for me you would understand me better, I would also try to understand you. You think I am too hard on law enforcement. The issues go beyond that. I speak to alot of people that see civil unrest in the not so far future because of the evaporation of low paying private sector jobs and the increased misery of the working class. Law enforcement will have to decide which side to take. The side of the people or the side of their keepers. The same with the military. At least you are gentlemen in the way you show your disdain for someone. This is not necessary but is kind of refreshing.

How is the government paycheck?
Eddie October 6, 2006 2:23 pm (Pacific time)
Heaven forbid! Well I might be wrong.
Albert Marnell October 6, 2006 2:07 am (Pacific time)
Eddie, Now you are talking like me!
Eddie October 5, 2006 11:26 pm (Pacific time)
OYA should invest money in prevention rather than jails. A couple million bucks is what I guess and I bet most of those kids would love to earn 5 to 10K and hear "well done". A little positive reinforcement would be a great incentive.
