Man Dies in Crash on Highway 126W West of Eugene

Oregon State Police troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Lane County District Attorney's Office.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Police say a Veneta-area man died Tuesday evening after his vehicle was struck by another vehicle on Highway 126W about five miles west of Eugene. Oregon State Police are investigating the fatal crash that also resulted in six other people being transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Lieutenant Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police says that around 5:30 PM Tuesday, a 1999 GMC pickup driven by 30-year old Steven Chad Seymour of Springfield, was eastbound on Highway 126 at Green Hill Road near milepost 1 when it crossed into the westbound lanes and crashed into two other vehicles.

The GMC first collided with a westbound 2004 Buick Century four-door driven by 48-year old Eddie M. Anglin of Veneta, then crashed head-on with a westbound 1987 Nissan Pathfinder driven by 37-year old Brian Lee Kirkpatrick of Veneta.

Mr Kirkpatrick was alone in his vehicle and critically injured. He was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital where he died after arrival. Safety restraint use information is to be determined.

Seymour was using safety restraints and his vehicle's airbags deployed. He was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His pickup had three other occupants. 34-year old Frank A. Louthan of Springfield, a passenger, was using safety restraints and wasn't injured. 56-year old Robert Wilz of Springfield, was using safety restraints and transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 44-year old Darrell W. Stanton of Springfield, was using safety restraints and transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Anglin was using safety restraints and received non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with his passenger, his mother, 77-year old Kathleen C. Anglin of Veneta, who also received non-life threatening injuries.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Lane County District Attorney's Office. No citations have been issued at this time. ODOT and local emergency responding personnel assisted at the scene.
