World Will Take to the Streets Thursday to Protest Bush Administration

Organizers say the administration is not taking care of its people as it wages war around the world.

(SALEM) - People all over the world who are deeply distressed over the Bush administration will band together by the millions this Thursday and the locations include the Oregon cities of Salem, Portland, McMinnville, Bend and Milton-Freewater.

Organizers say it is an opportunity for people who are outraged over the way in which the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rove team is seeking to control people in the Middle East through war, and throughout the world, while removing the rights of the people in the U.S. itself.

Salem’s protest starts at noon Thursday on the capitol mall under the gaze of the gold man. Organizers expect to bring together hundreds if not thousands to make their voices heard.

Organizers say they are holding the event at a time when local kids can participate.

”Bring your drums, pots and pans, kazoos, whatever...tell your high school marching band compatriots to be there. McNary and Sprague drumlines, we are counting on you to follow through whether or not you can bring school instruments! You will not want to miss the grooves we'll be into. South, West, McKay, we haven't heard from you yet...and to the entire North Salem band: you have no excuse not to be there, you're so close to the capitol! March against your JROTC program if nothing else.”

The march kicks off at 12:20 PM, initially heading west down Court Street, past the bus station, past the coffee shops to Commercial Street, then south to City Hall and Peace Plaza. Organizers want people to stick to the sidewalks and make way for pedestrians! “Remember: Peace, Love, Unity, Respect...even for people in automobiles.”

“We are going to let everybody know we're here, and we're going to let them know that we will NOT just sit around staring at our navels (or tv screens and computer monitors) as hundreds of civilians are tortured in Baghdad every week ON OUR WATCH.”

”We are NOT going to put our energy into doing what our bosses and teachers tell us we have to do while the people who presume to govern us are putting all THEIR energy into planning and promoting a war that will make many of us CANNON FODDER in Iran.”

Portland’s peace event happens at high noon in the South Park blocks Park and Salmon. Organizers in Portland say it is a general strike, “No school, No work. Come out and show the world that we can't wait for the normal political roads to lead us out of this mess. We have to GET BUSH OUT NOW! We know you are mad as we are!”

McMinnville residents will gather at three locations for their event. The times are 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM and from 3:30 to 5:00 PM according to organizers.

“We plan a leafletting campaign for World Can't Wait and our next film, Iraq for Sale at three pedestrian locations. We'll gather for a film about the failure of the Bush administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina in the evening."

The group will gather on Linfield Ave in front of the college at 3:30 PM and Third Street between Cowls and Ford Streets downtown from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. The third location has not been confirmed. She says they are having a training/organization meeting at 10:00 AM on Thursday.

Bend residents will see a number of events taking place between Oct 4th and Oct 8th during Central Oregon Action Now Week.

On Wednesday, October 4th, Democracy Day will be held with a Teach-in at the Central Oregon Environmental Center, 16 N.W. Kansas. This happens at 5:00 PM and the subject is Democracy Basics. At 6:00 PM, another subject will be discussed; Blogs, the New Power in Politics, and at 7:00 PM they will discuss “How to Find the Real News.”

"March AGAINST your JROTC"??? Since when did anything involved with the military become the enemy here? JROTC is a good program, and I don't understand how people, except through ignorance could find a negative connection between the war and a positve school program. And you know what, I'm a conservative Republican. I'm also an Operation Iraqi Freedom II veteran. My conservative views on government, nor my support of the military preclude me from disagreeing with the way this administration has handled -- well just about everything. So I'm tired of people who disagree with this war, saying "Yeah, we'll show you Republicans." Just because Bush ran under the Republican banner doesn't mean that all Republicans blindly support him.

Anyone who watched "The Truth and Lies of 9/11" by Mike Rupppert will see that the real terrorists are Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Kissinger, David Rockefeller and the Super Rich that they network with and serve for their own mutual gain. Even Princess Diana was part of a high tech liquidation in preparation for 9/11. She was going to marry a wealthy Arab business man and was viewed as a threat to the secrets of the Western Elite. Most of these people you have not even heard of because they want to keep a low profile yet they attend meetings to steer global policy (including war) for their own gain. 9/11 was a high tech fraud just like the liquidation of Princess Diana. Larry Silverstein profited from insurance policies beyond belief and yet the little guy has done nothing but pay more and more. All of these people have got to go. Get all of your information on the internet. If you watch any television you are a fool. Even this new Page Sex Scandal is another distraction from large important global issues. It is another Monica blinder. Cheney is the real pig behind alot of this but actually there are thousands of them. They are part of a small club that does not give a damn about you. They just want your tax money and labor power so they can aquire corporation after corporation and you can clean their toilets and wipe their rear ends.

Coolhead, people have every right to attend this rally, do you forget this is the American way? Torture? Is that OK with you? Americans need to take a stand and take this country back. If you're a conservative Republican, then I'll bet you do wish everybody would stay inside that day, but no dice. You guys backed the wrong horse in Bush and it was obvious to all thinking people from the beginning. He has done not a single thing that is good, he is a murdering warmonger who had no right to disrupt our military and throw away American lives. We're not one damned bit safer after initiating our war binge around the world.

Don't listen to those who ask you to calm down, just remember what is right and what is wrong. No American president that authorizes torture has the right to go on, you call for people to calm down, when they need to be REALLY ANGRY and be on with it.

We're sick of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, we're ashamed, all but the most ignorant. This is no slam on US troops, they are not the problem, they are honorable, unlike the people who sent them off to a war that didn't ever need to happen.

Take America back! The military and the police that want to join the people are more than welcome. They are Americans too being used by the New Royalty. If not, they are part of the problem. Get the new Redcoats the hell out! Bush has let American and International Royalty enslave the majority of people. This is no longer a democracy. We have Kings and Queens without titles but they are people who are more powerful than Kings and Queens. He even stole the election in Florida with his crooked minions. As much as things change, they stay the same. It is time for a Big Change! Don't expect it to be pleasant!
