(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Oregon is set to receive an additional $1.32 million for low income homeowners and renters to pay rising energy costs.

The emergency funding was requested by Senator Gordon Smith and 47 colleagues from cold weather states.

“No one should have to pick between heating their home and putting food on the table,” said Smith. “Rising fuel and energy costs are huge burdens for many Oregon families. When cold weather strikes, this important funding will help Oregonians keep their families warm.”

The Department of Health and Human Services Department released $131 million in additional funding at the request of the Senators.

The funding is part of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

The program allocates funding to all 50 states to provide financial assistance to individuals struggling to pay their energy bills.

Love this program, people who get assistance are very low income. Great news!
