Oregon Volunteers Spending Thanksgiving Caring for Victims of Typhoon

Medical Teams International is responding to the disaster by shipping medicines and medical supplies and sending teams of medical volunteers to provide care; the organization will continue to mobilize teams as needed.

(PORTLAND, OR) - Medical Teams International (MTI) is mobilizing additional medical professionals to care for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan. By the end of this week, the humanitarian relief and development organization will have deployed more than 30 volunteers. The following teams will be departing for Cebu and are scheduled to remain in the Philippines until the weekend of December 6th:


Departing Wednesday, November 20, 2013:

Richard L. Stamps, EMT Paramedic from Sherwood, OR
Colette Whelan, Registered Nurse from Bend, OR
Don H. LaGrone, Pediatrician from Portland, OR
John T. Schwarte, Registered Nurse from Salem, OR
Kyle E. Leonard, EMT Paramedic from Canby, OR
Shandra D. Greig, General/Family Practitioner from Silverton, OR


Departing Friday, November 22, 2013:
Kirk A. Hale, EMT Paramedic from West Linn, OR
Jeffrey D. Gillies, EMT Paramedic from Portland, OR
Michelle M. La Vina, Registered Nurse from Oregon City, OR
Sharon Tissell, Registered Nurse from Happy Valley, OR
