(SALEM, Ore.) - Creekside Flyfishing will be hosting a winter steelhead seminar this Saturday, November 21st. The event will take place in Pringle Plaza at the Creekside Fly Shop, 350 Liberty St SE from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and admission is free. The host is Rich Youngers, owner of Creekside Flyfishing and a long-time NW fishing guide. There will be many programs worth catching here. From noon to 1pm there will be a fly tying demonstration. From 1pm to 2pm Rich will be giving a slide show presentation featuring the Nestucca River, which he has fished for 35 years. The presentation will include fly selection, equipment, presentation and reading the water. The new Ed Ward DVD “Skagit Master” will also be playing inside the shop all day. Joining Rich will be Temple Fork Outfitter’s representative Dick Sagara. Dick will have TFO’s entire selection of fly rods with him, and participants will be welcome to test them out on the creek and pond adjacent to the shop. This selection will include the “Deer Creek” series of spey rods. This series is unique in that it includes both the traditional length rods, and the Deer Creek “Switch” rods. This is a lighter and slightly shorter version of a spey rod that can be cast both single-handed and/or double-handed. A TFO rod will be raffled off at this event. The winner will get to choose any TFO fly rod including spey and single handed styles. This will be a great time to learn from a master NW fisherman, put your hands on some new casting technology, and sharpen your skills for the upcoming winter steelhead season. ============================================== When time allows, Gerrit and his family make the break to the Detroit Lake area and other parts of Oregon where hunting and fishing are the order of the day. Gerrit has a way with words that is drawn from both education and life experience. While Gerrit has a full time career in law enforcement and firefighting before that, he has also taken the time to polish his natural skills at delivering written and visual information. He used to have an outdoor column in the South Salem Post. He has also written regular articles for Oregon Fishing & Hunting News and ESPN.com. Gerrit's experience in life is both awe-inspiring and honorable. Gerrit is likable, uniquely qualified, energetic and down to earth. He helps fill the void when it comes to articles about all of the amazing things Oregon has to offer those who have a connection with nature; be it through hiking, fishing, photography, hunting, or so many other outdoor activities here.
