(Corvallis, Oregon) - Daniel Gomis has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Oregon State men’s basketball team, head coach Craig Robinson announced on Monday.

“We are really excited that we signed Daniel Gomis,” Robinson said. “He is going to be able to help us in the very near term. He is long. He’s athletic. He’s new to the game, but he picks things up real quickly. So we couldn’t be any happier that he is coming and is adding to what we already have here.”

Gomis, a 6-foot-10, 208-pound power forward, is ranked the No. 22 power forward and 95th best player in the nation by Scout.com and the 38th best power forward by ESPN.com. He is described as “a dynamic athlete with a motor that never stops” and “he can rebound in traffic, block shots at a high rate and has the overall agility to guard multiple positions” by ESPN.com.

He attended the Community School in Sun Valley, Idaho last season as an exchange student from Theis, Senegal, where he averaged more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. He will play for prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., this season.

Gomis was the team captain for the Senegal SEEDS Academy that played in the 2009 Jordan Brand Classic International Game and also played in the 2009 Nike Global Challenge in Hillsboro, Ore., for Team Senegal.

The Beavers (1-0) will play Seattle University on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. at KeyArena in Seattle, Wash., in a game televised on FSN Northwest.
