(SALEM) - A pit bull mix is recovering at the Marion County Dog Shelter after being shot in the head. The dog was found in the Santiam Pass area Nov. 2nd by hunters last week according to Phyllis Morris with Marion County Dog Control. Morris says the dog was either shot by his owner or hunters sometime ago. The dog named “Bullet” by shelter staff, was shot just above the eye and the bullet traveled down into his nasal cavity. Shelter employees are trying to raise money to pay for surgery to remove the bullet so he can be ready for adoption. Morris says surgery and recovery costs for Bullet could be as high as $5,000. Anyone interested in adopting Bullet or donating money to help pay for his surgery should call the Marion County Animal Shelter at (503) 566-6984.
