(Newport, Oregon) - One person has drowned and a second is reported missing Wednesday afternoon off the South Jetty at Yaquina Bay near Newport. Oregon State Police, Newport Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office marine deputies and US Coast Guard personnel are jointly involved in the investigation and search. Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 1:00 p.m. area agencies received a report that two people were washed off the South Jetty into the ocean near South Beach State Park. US Coast Guard personnel responded and at approximately 1:13 p.m. spotted a body and retrieved it from the water. The body is that of a deceased adult female. Searchers are looking for a second person, believed to be an adult male, who was reportedly seen with a female earlier along the jetty.
