(OAKLAND, Calif.) - Junior Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Washington) led the Warriors with 17 points and 9 rebounds as Corban's men's basketball team prevailed against Holy Names, 91-80, Saturday night in the Tobin Gymnasium. The Warriors started slowly, soon facing a 17-8 deficit to the host Hawks. After fighting back to tie the game at 24-all, Corban played Holy Names to a virtual draw over the rest of the first half, as NHU took a slim 41-39 into the break. Cronrath and freshman Josiah Sebens (Bellingham, Washington) led the Warriors with 8 points each in the first 20 minutes, while the Hawks' David Scott scored 13 first-half points for the hosts. Having never led in the first half, Corban used an early 11-2 run to build a 56-52 lead early in the second period. After Holy Names re-tied the score at 56-all, the Warriors broke the game open with a 15-2 run to give the visitors a 13 point lead (71-58) with 10 minutes to go. After Corban pushed the advantage to a game-high 14 points, HNU cut the deficit to five (82-77) with 1:55 remaining before the Warriors put the game away by going 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the final two minutes. In addition to Cronrath's team-high 17 points and game-high 9 rebounds, the Warrior effort was aided by junior Jonathan Ramirez (New Britain, Ct.) and freshman Jordan Carter (Salem, Oregon) with 14 points each. Sebens added 12 points as six Corban players scored in the double-digits. Carter passed out a team-high 7 assists, while senior Deonte Johnson (Modesto, California) added 8 points and 7 rebounds. Holy Names was led in scoring by Scott's game-high 27 points. NHU's Mike McElroy tallied a game-high 9 assists and team-high 8 rebounds to go with 8 points in a near triple-double performance. As a team, Corban shot 30-for-61 (49.2%) from the field to go along with a 8-for-17 (47.1%) showing from beyond the three-point arc and a 18-for-22 (81.8%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Holy Names was 30-for-64 (46.9%) from the field, 7-for-21 (33.3%) from long distance, and 13-for-22 (59.1%) at the charity stripe. Corban will return to the hardwood on Saturday, November 13th, when the Warriors host California State University-Maritime beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E.
