(Newberg, Oregon) - Four members of the Western Oregon men’s basketball team scored in double figures as the Wolves came away with a 72-63 victory over George Fox in its exhibition opener, Saturday, Nov. 6. Kolton Nelson and Kyle Long each had 17 points to lead the Western Oregon. Nelson also added 13 rebounds to complete the double-double. He went 7-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line. Long came off the bench to score his 17. He made 5-of-9 shots from the field, including a trio of three-point baskets. The Wolves also got 15 points from Blair Wheadon and 13 from Kris White. After a slow start, in which the Bruins got on top 7-2, Western Oregon never trailed in the game. It scored eight unanswered points to take a 10-7 lead and eventually led 29-26 at halftime. In the second half, GFU cut WOU’s lead to one point on two different occasions, but each time the Wolves responded with a run of their own to maintain the lead. The next exhibition game for the Western Oregon men’s basketball team will be Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Oregon State.
