(CORVALLIS, Oregon) - Jason Lara, Colby Covington and Garrett Drucker each earned technical falls to pace the Black Team to a 37-3 victory over the Orange Team in the Oregon State Wrestling’s Intrasquad meet Saturday night at legendary Gill Coliseum. “We had a good night,” head coach Jim Zalesky said. “I saw a lot of good things, but also things we need to work on before we visit Boise State next week.” Clayton Jack added a fall over Tyler Sherman in the heavyweight class to cap off the night, which saw the Black Team nearly shut out the Orange squad. Only Alex Elder’s 11-4 decision over John Tuck prevented that from happening. Lara began the meet with a 20-3 technical fall over Pat Rollins, earning five points for the Black Team. Two weight classes later, and after a 13-3 major decision by Kelly Kubec, Drucker added four more points to put the Black Team up, 13-0. He defeated Kyle Christiansen, 24-7, to post the technical fall. Scott Sakaguchi earned a major decision over Nick Schlager, 9-1, at 149 pounds to move the score to 17-0, then watched as Elder defeated Tuck to post Orange’s only points of the night. Jon Brascetta picked up a 20-6 major decision victory over Anthony Peressini in the 165-pound class to make it 21-3, giving way for Covington’s technical fall over Cody Weishoff at 174 pounds. Covington, the reigning Pacific-10 Conference champion at 174 pounds, was victorious, 26-10. With three weight classes remaining and the Black Team up 25-3, Brice Arand took to the mat and earned a decision over Taylor Johnson, 5-1. He was followed by Mak Jones, who also picked up a decision with a 6-0 victory over newcomer Lucas Mondragon, putting the score at 31-3. Jack ended the night with the meet’s only fall, early on in the first period. That put the final score at 37-3. The intrasquad marked the first workout of the season for the Beavers at Gill Coliseum, who officially open their 2010-11 campaign next Saturday, Nov. 13, at No. 2 Boise State. The 22nd-ranked Beavers will squad off with the Broncos at 8 p.m. PT (9 p.m. in Boise).
