Nov-06-2009 16:25TweetFollow @OregonNews PTSD and Fort Hood Massacre: Psychiatrist Shooter was Set for Mideast DeploymentDr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.comNOW HEAR THIS: The Army VA Medical Service is broken almost beyond repair.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) - I have written that even medical/surgical personnel have PTSD as bad as Combat Infantrymen. I didn’t have any email responses which surprised me but this event is an example. The fighting soldiers, sailors and marines with PTSD have complained bitterly about deplorable service and VA care. Now it makes the TV and newspaper headlines. BELIEVE IT! There are several things about this whole episode which trouble me. First of all it indicates that the Army Medical Service can’t even take care of its own. Certainly this is not the only example. Major Hasan had a poor performance record at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Why did they promote him and then send him to Fort Hood for transfer to a battle zone to treat battle stressed PTSD Victims?? Battle stressed soldiers deserve better than a POOR PERFORMANCE PSYCHIATRIST. It appears he was totally incompetent for his job. It is reported that he was harassed by his colleagues. Poor performing doctors deserve that. I can imagine that battle stressed PTSD soldiers returning from Iraq etc were FREAKED OUT by being sent to a doctor who looked just like the Iraqis who had been shooting at them. He’s lucky he wasn’t physically attacked. It is reported that some called him “camel jockey”. This was probably one of the more civilized expressions. There are worse! Listening to the blood and guts stress stories of PTSD battle Veterans is certainly stressful in itself. The saying that some can do it and some can’t is seriously trivializing the problem. ER and Trauma surgery personnel psychologically burn out and probably this was part of his poor performance record. At any rate he was NOT appropriate to be a psychiatrist in a battle zone or maybe any other place. The Army Medical Service really screwed up on this one and the tragic results indicate that substantial changes MUST be made. We were promised this years ago. LETS GET ORGANIZED!!! ********************************************************** Dr. Phillip Leveque has degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology and minors in physiology and biochemistry. He was a Professor of Pharmacology, employed by the University of London for 20 years, during which time he trained the first doctors in Tanzania. After training doctors, he became an Osteopathic Physician, as well as a Forensic Toxicologist. Before any of that, Phil Leveque was a Combat Infantryman in the U.S. Army in WWII. He suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder more than 60 years after the war, and specialized in treating Veterans with PTSD during his years as a doctor in Molalla, Oregon.

I read an article from a reporter at Veteran's today that claimed this guy was an Advisor for Homeland Security under the Bush administration. Wouldn't surprise me.

Atheists are harassed in the military all the time; Jews are harassed and posletized and women are harassed and raped- Major Hasan's harasment isn't even in the running.

Personally i can't see any connection of this Psychiatrists behavior to Muslim terrorism, lets face he didn't exactly win a war against us.This man is just another nut who flipped out and started shooting people. Why not find out if he got his fat claws in the medicine cabinet before this happened.

I was reading that Hasan may have been one of the doctors the army told to not diagnosis soldiers with PTSD, but rather "personality disorder" which the army would not have had to treat them. Also, being at Virginia Tech raises some eyebrows. Long before this took place, my research shows me there are some government shenanigans going on there. Not enough evidence to what really happened at this time, but I sure as heck aint gonna jump on the terrorist explanation until there is more proof. And I dont mean mainstream media proof, they have lied to me enough thank you very much.

Vic: Soldiers airlifted out of the battle zone do not have injuries. They have wounds. Injuries are what you get from falling out of a tree. (I got that insight and line from one of the episodes of Band of Brothers.)

They may have to come up with a new condition for this guy; Pre-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, maybe? He apparently snapped as a result of anxiety and/or resentment about his upcoming deployment. Maybe this has already been documented, Dr. Phil? If anyone would know, you would. I recently finished your book, and there certainly was a lot of resentment for incompetent leadership during your "Dogface" days ---apparently, not much has changed.

Nobody gets PTSD from working in a hospital. The guy never saw battle but had a history of anti-American rhetoric and behavior. To those not wearing blinders, this guy committed a terrorist act out of hatred. He's no victim.

Something that I do not agree with is that these 12 soldiers will NOT be counted among the Iraq/Afg war casualties, just as soldier suicides and deaths at the hands of police or others of returning stressed out vets are NOT considered as war deaths. I also heard, but do not know if this is true, that soldiers who are airlifted out of the battle zone and die later on from their injuries are not being counted...??? Is this true??

I support the work you do Dr. Phil.
