Startup Weekend

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Startup Weekend is an event that brings together entrepreneurs, designers, developers, and startup enthusiasts for a weekend to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups.

Anyone at the event is welcome to pitch their business idea to all the attendees on Friday evening. The ideas with the most support will be worked on in teams throughout the weekend. Participants work nonstop from Friday evening until Sunday evening to develop these ideas into viable companies — often only stopping to sleep.

The event culminates on Sunday evening when teams present their ideas in front of a panel of judges who award prizes to the top teams. Prizes include free professional services from our local sponsors aimed at helping the teams build their startup companies.

Mentors from the Portland area who are well-versed in entrepreneurship will be on hand to help people with their ideas. Participants will hear from the event's featured speaker: Paige Hendrix-Buckner, co-founder of TiqueBox. “We’re so delighted that Paige is our keynote. She is a Portland Startup Weekend alumn and has an inspiring story about her own startup success,” said Sheri Dover, lead organizer.

“You get to learn more about yourself. Participants come in with lots of different expectations, but they all leave with a life changing experience,” said Jeff Whissen, co-lead organizer.

For participants looking to get a preview of Startup Weekend there is a Pre-Weekend Bootcamp on Saturday November 8. During Bootcamp participants will get to present and practice their pitches, increasing their chances of getting picked at Startup Weekend. Successful alumni will be there to give their tips and tricks to get the most out of startup weekend.

Local sponsors for November’s Portland Startup Weekend include the PSU Business Accelerator, Immix Law Group, EdgeLink, KIND, Tonkon Torp, PDX Code Guild, Portland Seed Fund, and Silicon Valley Bank.
