(SALEM, Oregon) - The Willamette University women's tennis team has received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award for the 2009-10 season as a result of the Bearcats' efforts in the classroom. The award required a team cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. A total of 79 women's tennis teams competing in NCAA Division III qualified for the award.

In addition, two tennis players from Willamette were named to the 2009-10 ITA Scholar-Athlete list. They were Alyssa Morrison (Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) and Katie Huber (Saint Peter, MN/Saint Peter HS).

Morrison, who graduated in May 2010 with a bachelor's degree in Rhetoric and Media Studies, received the ITA Scholar-Athlete honor for the third year in a row. Huber, who is majoring in Politics, was a freshman in 2009-10.

Overall, 452 women's tennis players in NCAA Division III received ITA Scholar-Athlete status.

Players receiving the ITA Scholar-Athlete award were required to achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average (4.0 scale) during the 2009-10 academic year. They also had to be letterwinners on their respective teams and had to attend their current colleges or universities for at least one full academic year by the end of the season.

Willamette Head Coach Becky Roberts completed her 10th season with the Bearcats in 2009-10. She led Willamette to a 12-9 overall record during the year, including 10-6 (4th place) in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats qualified for the NWC Tournament.

Morrison concluded her Willamette career with a solid season. She went 14-7 in singles, including 11-5 in the NWC during the regular season.
