(SALEM, Ore.) - Lt. Bob Stai with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says Torres had a Parole Violation warrant and was being sought by detectives in regards to the murder investigation.

"Today, information was obtained that Mr. Torres was going to be at a particular location in Salem," Stai said.

Marion County Sheriff's Office Traffic Team members and detectives say they attempted to stop David Torres who at the time was operating a vehicle in the area of Commercial Street and Kuebler Road SE.

Stai says Torres successfully eluded deputies in his vehicle.

"The vehicle was left in the area of Browning Ave SE and Liberty Road SE. A few minutes later Mr. Torres was observed on foot in the same general area. When seen by deputies and officers, Mr. Torres fled south on Liberty Road near Browning Ave SE. Mr. Torres was last seen running in people's backyards. In the general area are located Faye Wright Elementary and Queen of Peace schools."

Stai says there was never a threat to school children's safety, but as a precaution, nearby schools went into lock down procedures. "Upon conclusion of the incident, deputies made contact at these schools to explain to school officials what had transpired."

With the assistance of neighbors, David Torres was located at a residence at 4071 Lockwood Avenue SE, which is one block south of Browning Ave and Liberty Road SE.

Assistance was further offered by Jim Elkins, owner of West Coast Washers Helicopter, who provided his helicopter to support officers in locating Mr. Torres, Stai said.

"Upon making contact at this residence, Mr. Torres refused to comply with officers verbal demands and used physical force to resist his arrest. Mr. Torres ran from the residence back towards Liberty Road and Browning Ave. SE." He says Torres was finally apprehended in the 100 block of Browning Avenue SE. Neither Mr. Torres or responding officers sustained any serious physical injuries.

Mr. Torres was arrested and booked at Marion County Jail for Parole Violation, Attempting to Elude, Attempted Assault on a Public Safety Officer, and Reckless Driving.

Marion County Sheriff's Office staff say they want to thank the neighbors and motorists, as well as, Mr. Elkins for their assistance. As to the investigation of Mr. Zeeb's murder, anyone with information are asked to contact Detective Martin Bennett at (503) 566-6927.
