(SALEM) - Salem Hospital's new wireless network allows patients, visitors, and family members at the hospital to use their personal electronic device to access the Internet.

Salem Hospital's Sherryll Johnson Hoar says anyone with a portable computer or other handheld device, with a wireless card and an HTML-compatible browser, should be able to use the system.

Salem Hospital's wireless network is an early component of its upcoming electronic-medical-records system, portions of which are scheduled to be operational in December 2006. "We're happy to offer this wireless network to our guests at Salem Hospital," says Chief Information Officer Dennis Sato.

The wireless network will support both the general public use, as well as the new electronic-medical-records system. "The electronic medical records will be fully secure and not accessible to guests using the wireless system."

Brochures describing how to connect to the Internet through the hospital's wireless system are available throughout the campus. The system is available in the hospital, Family Birth Center, Urgent Care, and the Center for Outpatient Medicine, all on the hospital's Winter Street campus.
