(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police are investigating the shooting and robbery of a cab driver that occurred in the 2200 block of Liberty St NE at approximately 4:20 AM Saturday.

Salem Police Lt Dave Okada says officers were dispatched to a report of a gunshot wound in the 2200 block of Liberty St NE and arrived to find that a cab driver had been shot in the head during an apparent robbery.

"The driver picked up the suspect in the Jan Ree area of northeast Salem and drove him to the 2200 block of Liberty St NE. As the suspect exited the vehicle he attempted to steal money from the cab driver and a shot was fired in the process."

Okada says the victim sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the head and was treated and released at Salem Hospital.

The suspect, who fled on foot, is described as a Hispanic male adult, 18-28 years old, 5'10"-6'00" tall, wearing red shorts and a black t-shirt.

"This suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, and anybody who knows of the immediate whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 911," Okada said.

Anybody with further information on this case is asked to call Salem Police Detective Jamie Vasas at 503-588-6050, extension 7153.
