(ELMIRA, Ore. ) - A Western Oregon University student from Alaska was critically injured early Sunday morning when the pickup she was a passenger in left drove off Territorial Highway about 1 1/2 miles north of Clear Lake Road and rolled numerous times. The passenger was ejected from the pickup and critically injured. The driver received minor injuries and alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in this crash. Preliminary Oregon State Police investigation indicates that at approximately 1:10 AM a 1990 Toyota pickup driven by 18-year-old Colton G. Haag, from Elmira, was northbound on Territorial Highway when it crossed the center lane and went off the southbound shoulder into a ditch. The pickup rolled several times and came to rest in a field on the west side of the highway. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Lacey E. Dunn, age 19, from Ward Cove, Alaska, was ejected. She was critically injured and transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene. She has since been flown to OHSU in Portland. Safety restraint use information is still under investigation. Haag received minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment. Safety restraint use is also still to be determined. OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation in which alcohol is a contributing factor. There have been no arrests related to this case and investigators are working in conjunction with the Lane County District Attorney's Office.
