(BATTLE GROUND, Wa.) - Officials in Battle Ground Washington say three people are alive after a Cessna 210 aircraft crashed and caught fire at the Buzzard Flats Airport, a private airstrip that has been in use since the early 40's.

Local dispatchers first heard about the crash of a small plane around 8:00 PM Friday. Witnesses reported that there were three occupants seen exiting out of the plane and that it was now on fire.

Fire personnel, American Medical Response and Clark County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene. When they arrived the plane was in flames and the fire had spread to trees at the end of the runway.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly. They also learneded that all occupants of the plane had gotten out before it caught on fire.

The three were treated at the scene and the pilot was then transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. He sustained 1st and 2nd degree burns to his arms and legs, he also had a laceration to his face. The injuries are not considered life threatening.

The other two occupants were treated at the scene and declined transport to the hospital, they were not burned.

The pilot reported that he had made a final approach to the airstrip from the west and after landing the airplane the airplane "took a hop" and he was unable to stop the plane before it crashed into the trees at the end of the runway.

All three occupants exited the plane after it came to rest.

Anthony Diamond has owned the airstrip since 2001.
