(Keizer, Ore.) - Keizer Police arrested a man after a pursuit that ended with the suspect vehicle abandoned near the Kennedy Elementary School. 45-year old Bryan Gilbert Ogden was taken into custody at 12:21 PM. It began when Keizer Police officers were advised by state police troopers that they were in pursuit of a gold Honda Accord near their area, according to Keizer Police Captain Jeff Kuhns. "We found out the pursuit continued into Keizer on Verda Lane from the area of Salem Parkway and Hyacinth. As our officers were headed towards this area armed with spike strips, etc., we learned the pursuing trooper no longer had a visual of the fleeing vehicle and had discontinued his/her pursuit." That's when Kuhns says a Keizer officer saw the suspect vehicle headed east from Verda Lane on Keizer Road. "But as he made his way around the turns in the roadway he too lost sight of the fleeing vehicle." Additional Keizer officers responded to the area and began to establish a perimeter near the last known location of the suspect vehicle. "We advised Kennedy Elementary School of the ongoing police activity because officers were told the fleeing subject had multiple warrants for his arrest." Kuhns says Kennedy Elementary School did go into a lock-down. "As we were continued setting our perimeter one of our officers discovered the fleeing vehicle parked near Kennedy Elementary School. It was unoccupied. He contacted a witness who saw who parked the vehicle and which way he fled on foot." The witness told officers that a single person fled from the vehicle. The local 911 center put the information out to all of the other officers who were in the area. Kuhns says a detectives who was operating an unmarked vehicle spotted the suspect about two minutes later. "He was found walking near the intersection of Hasbrook and Pettygrove Court. This is about two to three blocks north of where the suspect vehicle was abandoned." He says they weren't sure initially if it was the suspect. He was detained until the witness could be brought to his location to positively identify him. Investigators say the suspect had removed his shirt as he was fleeing in an attempt to change his appearance. The witness arrived a few minutes later and positively identified him as the man who fled the suspect vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody by Oregon State Police at that time, after being identified as Bryan Gilbert Ogden.
