(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - Oregon State Police report a fatal traffic crash on Highway 99W about four miles south of Monmouth. They say the highway there is closed. State troopers on the scene say the collision involved a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck. "Preliminary information from the scene indicates a northbound small pickup driven by the victim attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone and collided with a southbound commercial truck." Police report that the male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the truck driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Oregon's Highway Department has a detour established around the fatal crash scene, they say more information will be released later this afternoon. You can never be in such a hurry to pass in a NO pass zone. I see people do it too often, I can't believe it. Sorry this man took a chance like that. This is worse than being late.
