(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers are investigating the death of a Salem man after he ran in front of a commercial truck and was struck on Interstate 5 northbound south of Salem. Lt. Gregg Hastings with OSP says around 10:00 A.M. this morning, a 1997 Volvo truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with furniture, was in the right northbound lane of Interstate 5 near milepost 247, when a man standing on the shoulder reportedly ran into the path of the commercial truck and was struck. The truck was driven by 45-year old David Lizer of La Mesa, California. The man who was struck, identified as 44-year old Angel Tapia-Ordonez of Salem, came to rest in the ditch alongside the freeway and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hastings says Lizer was wearing his seat belt and was not hurt. State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation, he said. Lizer was not cited and there is no enforcement action pending. Oregon Department of Transportation road crews and Motor Carrier Inspectors, the Marion County District Attorneys' Office and the Marion County Medical Examiner assisted at the scene.
