Groups Staunchly Oppose 'The Mother's Act' Saying it Strips Freedom and Rights

New Mental Health Test Bill is no Mother's Day present for American moms.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Groups advocating to help maintain the basic freedoms of American mothers are speaking out loudly against legislation known as "The Mother's Act".

This is described as a sweeping government policy for all new births in the United States that would test and screen the mental conditions of new moms.

If they fail the questionnaire, the government could demand that they use dangerous anti-depressant drugs before their babies will be released into their custody.

The act has passed the House of Representatives and is now headed to the Senate.

The Mother's Act would mandate that all new mothers be screened by means of a list of subjective questions that will determine if each mother is mentally fit to take their newborn home from the hospital.

Freedom Fighter Radio said, "Just imagine that after your child is born, you are told that you can't take them home since a multiple choice questionnaire wasn't answered correctly."

"Just imagine being told that the only way you can take your child home is if you or your spouse goes into treatment or on anti-depressants which we know causes psychosis, delusions, and even homicidal thoughts."

Numerous groups have joined together in saying that it just doesn't make sense. This bill is on a fast track and there has been no public debate, and no public disclosure of the broad potential impact on society.

The Mother's Act appears to violate Constitutional right to privacy and a family's right to liberty. Groups fighting the act say it is just outright dangerous.

Groups are asking Americans to speak up and demand that politicians stop this.

The following list contains contact information for senators on the HELP Committee. Those opposing the act hope citizens will contact politicians and and tell them that they want the Mother's Act to die in committee.

If Congress does not know what this bill really translates into, nor how the common and current “treatments” of PPD being pushed by funding the delivery portion of this bill will affect pregnant mothers (because the FDA has not established ANY safety data), and have NO language protecting consumers– they have no business passing this bill. Because Mother’s Act translates into a to a huge off-label push to make “BIG profits” for an “under-paid” diagnosis. Any marketing or pharma sales rep sees that a mile away. FACT: this bill IS a disease campaign (using tax dollars instead of pharma marketing dollars) to pay non-profits to promote a disease. FACT: this bill has all the pre-drug marketing schemes– screening tools, education to patients (that is code for Direct to Consumer teachings), non-profit funding, and a national awareness campaign. FACT: there are currently no medications approved for PPD but there IS a list of clinical drug trials on www.clinicaltrials.gov in the works. FACT: a large number of groups advocating for this bill will benefit financially from this bill, and may also be funded by pharma. That WILL produce biased research, it will be pharma influenced research and feedback. I have presented to you FACTS, and the Mother’s Act does not! It wants to educate to “promote earlier diagnosis and treatment” none are FDA approved. That is called human experimentation or aka an off-label scheme. Supporters just keep pitching the lines “big problem” and “needs more research” and funding. If your State senator’s office starts saying “BIG problem” and “needs research,” they too have been pitched and just need to be educated on the FACTS. This bill is set up so if anyone opposes it is labeled evil or uncaring, but that is far from the truth. They are trying to safeguard moms and babies. Mother’s Act is really a big off-label promotion for PPD, which benefits pharmaceutical companies and others at the expense of experimenting on moms. And as a mom, with pharma marketing experience, I thank you for exposing these points and not allowing these moms to be lied to and experimented on in the name of "research."

You see, before the FDA approves a medication, the drug company pays for exposure and public awareness of the disease by funding non-profits and holding national awareness campaigns (in sales that is called “cultivating the market”). The disease is promoted a “big social problem.” Simultaneously, “disease” experts then create screening tools and studies, and non-profits start doing surveys and interviews explaining how “under-researched” the condition is. Then, miraculously, one pharmaceutical company gets a drug approved to market for that specific disease and makes BILLIONS doing so. Proof? Let’s review Social Anxiety Disorder. We pitched two specific lines in the media “BIG problem” and “under-researched.” That is the pitch folks! If your State senator’s office starts saying “BIG problem” and “needs research,” they too have been pitched and just need to be educated on the FACTS. The non-profits promoting social anxiety were FFF, ADAA, and Amer. Psychiatric Association in a group named the Social Anxiety Disorder Coalition. It was exposed that the pharma company created this Coalition. But, no one has exposed the fact that its non-profit board members received funding from that pharma company, while developing the social anxiety screening tools and surveys. And, it was never mentioned in the media that NIMH joined in to fund (alongside these pharma-paid researchers of these non-profits) the social anxiety screening tool to promote the drug. Interesting…who knew? (It is public info, and can be easily proven.) Then, out of the goodness of one company’s heart (and pocket) comes the solution in form of an FDA-approved antidepressant for the condition. A “treatment” type which has been under fire, safety questioned, black boxed, investigated by states, researchers are under Congressional investigations exposed for conflicts of interest, has research integrity issues, and responsible for many deaths of babies and adults. The Mother’s Act sets up the same scenario. It wants to educate to “promote earlier diagnosis and treatment” none are FDA approved. That is called human experimentation or aka an off-label scheme. Supporters just keep pitching the lines “big problem” and “needs more research” and funding. Now, switch social anxiety to post partum depression, switch the disease specific non-profit support groups (keeping the APA’s validation of “BIG problem” and “needs more research”), switch the funding from pharma money to our tax dollars, with no safeguards against pharma influenced non-profits and research, and integrate off-label DELIVERY of “treatments” along with research and there you have the Mother’s Act. If you do not know what this bill really translates into, nor how the common and current “treatments” of PPD being pushed by funding the delivery portion of this bill will affect pregnant mothers (because the FDA has not established ANY safety data), and have NO language protecting consumers– you have no business passing this bill. Because Mother’s Act translates into a to a huge off-label push to make “BIG profits” for an “under-paid” diagnosis. Any marketing or pharma sales rep sees that a mile away. Get the FACTS!

The Mothers Act legislation is nothing more than another off-label marketing scheme to recapture the lucrative market of women of childbearing years between the ages of 16 and 50. The bill refers to postpartum depression and psychosis only but Pharma front groups have internet websites set up with links to screening programs that screen women before, during and after pregnancy for a whole list of "mood" and "anxiety" disorders. The SSRI antidepressants are not the only drugs sought to be marketed via this scheme. These days people are prescribed 2, 3 or even 4 drugs at a time, including "mood stablizers" such as antipsychotics and antisiezure drugs and ADHD drugs as well. All of which not only cause serious adverse effects for women but also to the fetus through pregnant and nursing moms. None of the above drugs are FDA approved as safe for use by pregnant or nursing womem.

This month's VOGUE magazine did a great story about this; the risks of antidepressants to pregnant and nursing mothers.

Take a good look at what America is becoming. It ain't pretty or free or brave, it is disgustingly oppressive like something out of a dark science fiction movie but worse because Americans are actually thinking like this, seems like hell on earth.

Motherhood became devalued once we allowed surrogate motherhood--it basically made women a vessel and nothing more.

Happy to see at least one Oregon senator on the list. I got the strangest sense of deja vu reading this as i did a while ago when learning about Margaret Sanger, Eugenics, forced sterilization, and Planned Parenthood. It's morbid. How indecedent!!!

I can't believe this. This is right out of a Nazi handbook. Imagine all the lives that could be ruined if the government starts running a program like this. They can't get their other programs right, why do they think this one will work?
