( COLUMBUS, Ohio /PRNewswire/) - James "Buster" Douglas, former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, delivers a message to President Obama in his brand new inspirational diabetic diet cookbook. "Take a moment to grieve," Douglas said, in "Buster's Backyard Bar-B-Q Knockout Diabetes Diet," available now on Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle versions. He and his co-author, Tony Reynolds, created it to: 1) Inspire and 2) Inform people with diabetes. "You will be healthy with this book," Douglas said. After the death of his mother, only 23 days before he won what ESPN calls one of the greatest boxing matches of the past century, Douglas admits he started abusing himself. On February 10th 1990 Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson in the 10th round in Tokyo, Japan. The only Vegas bookie that took the fight had placed 42-1 odds against Douglas winning that fight. Douglas details how he then started alcohol and food binges to the point of going into a diabetic coma for five (5) days and nearly dying. He was still grieving his mother's passing. Just as President Obama's grandmother, who had raised him along with his mother, had died right before his historic election as the first African-American President of the United States. That is why Douglas believes the President can understand his message. He hopes by recounting his dark days and experiences, he can inspire other people living with this disease to live a healthy life. The book also gives information on how to live with the disease, including 25 summer time recipes. He was welcomed on the Martha Stewart Sirius Radio show in April 2009, after Twittering with her. His Twitter ID is iambuster. His website is iambuster.ning.com/. Douglas hopes President Obama will take his advice this Mother's Day and spend some time to reflect and allow himself space to heal from that tragic loss.
