(SALEM, Ore.) - Approximately 500 fellow officers, family, friends and others joined together Thursday afternoon in Salem at the Oregon Public Safety Academy to honor the brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty. Four names were added to Oregon's Memorial Wall where it is inscribed "WITH THE REDEDICATION OF THE LIVING TO THE PRINCIPLES WHICH GUIDED THESE DEAD, WE GIVE MEANING TO THEIR SACRIFICE." Oregon Attorney General John Kroger joined John Minnis, Director of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, honoring our courageous state troopers, county deputies and city officers. The names of Oregon State Police (OSP) Senior Trooper William Hakim (2008); Woodburn Police Captain Tom Tennant (2008); Portland Police Officer Samuel S. Young (1908); and, Lane County Reserve Deputy Robert Riley (1958) were dedicated and recognized May 7th. I think we should have a memorial to all the people kille by the police that did not deserve to die. But believe me, it will have to be a lot bigger, as there will be a lot more than 169 names.
