(SALEM) - PGE crews have hung 10,622 blue ribbons from the tree branches outside the Marion County Courthouse, to remind passers-by of the ongoing problem of child abuse and neglect in Oregon. The ribbons each represent one confirmed case of child abuse or neglect in the state. According to data from the child abuse and neglect coalition in 2005, over 1,000 children in Salem alone were taken into protective custody. Each day, there are over 1,000 children in foster care in Marion County. A public rally will be held at noon on Tuesday on the steps of the Capitol.
