(SALEM) - On Thursday, at 4:22 AM, a first alarm assignment (3 Engines, Ladder Truck, Medic Unit and Battalion Chief) responded to a Structure Fire at 1120 15th Street NE.

This single family dwelling had a total of 7 occupants living in the home.

They did have a working smoke detector which alerted them to the fire and allowed them to escape safely.

When firefighters arrived on scene they had no visible flames or smoke from the exterior of the structure.

Upon entering the home they discovered a fire burning in the living room.

Firefighters were able to stop the spread of fire to the rest of the structure saving thousands of dollars of damage.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction of an electrical candle.

The loss is estimated at $35,000 ($10,000 Structure & $25,000 Contents).
