(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Authorities had the sad task of recovering the body of an 18-year old Canby man from the Molalla River River Thursday afternoon. Jesse Bough drowned after jumping into the fast moving water about 5 1/2 miles above the Glen Avon Bridge, in an area known as "Party Rock." Detective Jeffrey Green with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says his agency is investigating the apparent drowning. He says information from the deputies at the scene indicates that Mr Bough and another teen jumped into the river but only one teenager was able to get out of the water without any problem. "Mr. Bough attempted to swim across the river and went under after struggling." The body was found a short time later about 1 mile downstream by a fisherman, who notified rescue personnel. Rescuers on scene say the water in the Molalla River was 46 degrees, there was a rapid current, and the river has small pools with rapids between. Green says this area is a dangerous place to swim this time of year. "According to experienced personnel this section of the river is known as a hazardous area for swimming." Green says there was no alcohol or drugs involved in this incident. The body will be taken to the Oregon Medical Examiner Office. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office wants to remind people that water temps will be very cold at this time of year. Rivers will be very dangerous, with unpredictable currents due to the waters running with snow melt and rains. If you do go near the rivers, you should use personal flotation devices (PFDs). Between the swift currents and water temps, a person can get into trouble very fast.
