Oregon Food Bank Warns About Bogus Cell Phone Spam

Watch cell phone messages soliciting money for the Food Bank, and remember that in spite of the alleged scam, it is simple and safe to make donations to the Oregon Food Bank

(SALEM) - Oregon Food Bank has received a number of complaints from people receiving unsolicited text messages on their cell phones from senders claiming to raise funds on behalf of OFB.

The names associates with these messages are coolcasino.tv, westcoastwagers.net, which claims to be a subsidiary of World Wide Media, Corp.

Oregon Food Bank has not authorized this promotion, say officials, who add that Oregon Food Bank has no relationship with the senders or with this activity.

Oregon Food Bank has strict policies to protect donor information. Oregon Food Bank policy prohibits selling, exchanging or releasing data.

The sender of the text messsages did not get personal information from Oregon Food Bank.

Oregon Food Bank's policy prohibits telephone solicitation of any kind.

Oregon Food Bank has filed a complaint with the Oregon Department of Justice and is attempting to stop the unauthorized use of its name.

  • To prevent future unwanted spam on your cell phone, visit www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall

I was glad to see that this article included the "do not call" registration site. Way to go Salem-News-You have kept us Salemites informed yet again!! It seems these days you have to be "on top" of everything relating to identity theft and now that includes having a charitiable organizations name misused to solicite monies, via a cell phone scam!
