(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Two men received minor injuries, including one who was able to walk away from his car after it split in half during a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Highway 26 at Kelso Road. Police say that around 7:15 AM Monday, a 1990 Honda Accord driven by 19-year old Aldo Menchaca Varela of was westbound on Highway 26 in the left lane approaching the intersection at Kelso Road. An eastbound 1997 Volkswagon Golf four door driven by 33-year old Hector Perez-Sanluis of Portland, was in the left turn lane waiting for westbound traffic to clear to turn north onto Kelso Road. Investigators say Perez-Sanluis turned left into the path of the westbound Honda. The Honda's right front crashed into the passenger side between the doors of the Volkswagon Golf, splitting it in half. The split Volkswagon Golf came to rest on the north side of the highway. Both drivers were using safety restraints. Perez-Sanluis was able to crawl out of his car on his own. Both were transported to Mt. Hood Medical Center where they were treated and released. Perez-Sanluis was cited for Dangerous Left Turn. Oregon State Police were assisted by Boring Fire Department, AMR and ODOT at the scene. Westbound lanes were closed about one hour. I don't think it really says anything about the integrity of the Honda. But I think it speaks volumes about the integrity of the VW. The fact that ANY small car could tear a VW in half makes me question the VW quality. It would be interesting to know if this VW was perhaps a rebuilt wreck that was done poorly.

Amazing story. What does this say about the structural integrity of a 1990 Honda Accord?
