(SALEM) - The Salem Police Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) teamed up with deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office Parole and Probation Division on the evening of March 21 to conduct a domestic violence offender compliance and victim safety sweep.

Eight Salem police officers and a Salem Police domestic violence victim advocate partnered with nine Marion County deputies to conduct the release agreement compliance sweep of known domestic violence offenders. Officers and deputies made unannounced visits to locations where court release agreements restricted the presence of specific domestic violence offenders.

When offenders are arrested and booked into the Marion County Correctional Facility and released pending trial, they are issued a release agreement that they must sign. The document is a court order with various instructions and/or restrictions, the most common being an order to have no contact with the alleged victim, and often also restricts the offender from specific locations. It was these locations and victims that were visited by the officers and deputies to check for compliance by the suspects.

Twelve locations were visited by the teams, and four offenders were arrested for being in violation of the no contact portion of the release agreements. There was also one suspect arrested for a parole violation.

There are annual domestic violence sweeps that are conducted in our area, and the Salem Police DVRT will be conducting additional operations to enhance the safety of victims in our community.

The Salem Police Department is committed to the safety of our community, and the Domestic Violence Response Team will continue to focus on the safety of domestic violence victims and to reduce the incidents of repeated domestic violence.

News Release from Salem Police Dept.
