(SALEM, Ore.) - A long term investigation into a suspected meth house led to several arrests Wednesday. Marion County Sheriff's Office Lt. Bob Stai says detectives and the county SWAT team, with assistance from the Marion County Interagency Meth Strike Force, executed a search warrant at 4575 Satter Drive NE. Investigators say they believed methamphetamine was being distributed from the location. After entering the residence, SWAT members located what appeared to be precursor chemicals used in the making of methamphetamine. Stai says that as a safety precaution, clandestine laboratory trained investigations donned self-contained breathing apparatus and other personal protection equipment to make entry into the residence for the purpose of making an appraisal. It was determined that there was no active “Meth lab” within the residence. Unknown chemical substances, believed to be associated with the making of methamphetamine were located in a closet area. These chemicals will be subjected to further analysis and properly removed by an approved Drug Enforcement Administration contractor at the conclusion of the investigation, according to Stai. Based upon the evaluation, there are no health risks to neighbors in the area. Five adults were in the residence. Stai says they were subsequently decontaminated as a safety precaution. Based upon the preliminary investigations, probable cause was developed to charge these individuals with Frequenting a Place Where Controlled Substances are Used. Their names were not released at the time of this report. They were transported to the Marion County Jail. Based upon the preliminary investigation probable cause was developed to arrest and charge the primary resident, 39-year old Joel Matthew Pikl, with Delivery of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Sheriff's Office investigators say the investigation is ongoing. Articles for March 15, 2007 | Articles for March 16, 2007 | Articles for March 17, 2007 | Quick Links

This whole matter occured while Mr. Pikl was no longer residing at his adress. This address. This case took place after Mr. Pikl had filed a law suit against Marion Co. police for an unlawful beating that had taken place at his residence, resulting in three broken ribs and a skull fracture. Mr. Pikl was then at the hospital placed into a cab and sent to his residence. Only after the statutes of limatations had ran out Katherin Millgard(Marion Co. sheriff made a statement that stated "I told them that they didn't have to do that to you" in front of witnesses. This case was dropped due to the fact that so many officers contradicted themselves as to what they saw and where they were at the time of this occurance. Mr Pikl was then sent to prison for a crime that he did not commit, with a promise of probation, but then sentenced to the harshest sentence imposed by a judge in the state of Oregon for this crime.

The defendent was coerced by marion co. sherrifs dept. into accepting a plea agreement for the charge of delivery of Meth. The defendant is currently in the process of appeals. The chemicals alleged to have been seized during the investigation were left behind, and were actually chemicals used as part of his occupation in chemical engineering. specifically the manufacturing of synthetic latexes and adhesives. The Marion Co. police force alleged that a sale of methanphetamine was sold by an unknown male that had exited Mr. Pikls vehicle and had allegedly made a sale of meth to a paid informent. Also an arrest record for Mr. Pikl was falsified to obtain a search warrant of Pikl's rental property.
