(TUALATIN, Ore.) - On Sunday, March 2nd, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue/Local 1660 firefighters participated for the eighth time in the grueling Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb in Seattle, Washington. The event—a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society—requires participants wearing 50 lbs of turnouts, boots, and air packs to race up 69 flights of stairs to reach the observation deck and finish line of the Columbia Center. This year's event had the largest number of firefighters participate with 1,311 firefighters from 156 departments. TVF&R is proud to announce that its team took many top honors and is currently in second place for fundraising. The team's goal is to raise $15,000 and would like to invite the community to "Join Our Team" by making a contribution to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Donations can be made online by visiting Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue's website at tvfr.com or mailed to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, 20665 SW Blanton Street, Aloha, OR 97007 (checks payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In the past seven years, the team has raised more than $40,000. 2008 Top Honors: Second Largest Team in the Event – the TVF&R/Local 1660 team of 37 members was second only to Seattle Fire Department. Second in Team Time: – the top three team member's times are used to determine team time. Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Ron Baker, Engineer/Paramedic James Thornton, and Firefighter/Paramedic Geoff Goodman. Third Overall Female: - Firefighter Krissy Preim-Smith (Females / Age 25 to 29). First in Age Division: Battalion Chief Jim Davis Sr. (Males / Age 55 to 59); Firefighter Krissy Preim-Smith (Females / Age 25 to 29). Second in Age Division: – Engineer/Paramedic James Thornton (Males / Age 40 to 44 and Masters Division) Third in Age Division: – Firefighter/Paramedic Ron Baker (Males / Age 20 to 24) Fourth in Age Division: – Captain Virgil Hall (Males / Age 45 to 49) TVF&R Captain and long-time team organizer Allen Kennedy states, "This worthwhile event is a tremendous commitment for the participants.
