(SALEM) - While the lights are still on, we at Salem-News.com want you to know that we like being here, growing and improving and delivering important news to our community.

Our advertisers have been solid and wonderful and they have had results from their investments, that's why they are still here.

We welcome new advertisers! But we have found that getting support from new advertisers has been challenging. We operate with a small staff to keep costs down and that means that our sales team is limited.

A small investment from local businesses would keep us here and allow Salem to have a second option for news. If Salem prefers a one-horse media town, and the business community does not support us, we will cease to exist. We believe that would be contrary to the needs of our community.

Along with our team, I have spent more than three years here building news contacts and increasing relationships, primarily through my role at KATU Channel-2 News. But KATU ended their Salem segment on weeknights, I left them to do this full-time, and now it is sink or swim for all of us.

We try to do good news that matters, and we believe people here deserve a modern multi-media news organization to keep them up to date.

Countless thousands of hours have been invested but believe me, if support does not come, then we will go away and maybe someday another corporate, non locally-owned news group will come here and give people more of what they are used to, which isn't much.
