(Salem) - Firefighters rescued a construction worker after the man took a serious fall Monday. It is reported that after losing his footing, the 37-year old man fell nine feet into a construction ditch at 1175 Leslie Street SE.

It happened just before 11:30 AM.

Salem Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says the department responded quickly, locating the man in the vault that was part of a project under the direction of Turner Construction.

Firefighter/Paramedics entered the ditch and after performing initial treatment, placed the injured man in a rescue basket. After he was secured, the rescue basket was hoisted to the top, where paramedics were able to continue treatment.

Holmstrom says the man was transported to Salem Hospital in good condition.
