(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem police say a transient burned to death early this morning when a fire his was using to keep warm accidentally caught his tent and sleeping bag on fire. A police spokesman said around 2:20 AM, a report of a fire under the the Mission Street overpass came into dispatchers. Salem fire responded and put out the fire. Police say the man is in his mid to late 30s or early 40s and has been tentatively identified. Police are withholding the victim's name pending notification of next of kin. _________________________________________
