We are only asking for help from those who can spare it, we do not expect viewers who are also struggling to provide financial assistance.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Several years ago, in 2004, we set out to create something that can make a difference in the world. We didn't know where it would go or how it might come down, but today Salem-News.com is a highly rated news site and needs to continue.

We have made things hard for ourselves, because we refuse to be sold out to anyone for anything. We have courted some businesses for support that we should not have, and we have asked for assistance from people who can't provide it, or choose not to.

So here we are six years later, delivering news to almost 20k unique visitors a day, in an ethical format that never requires a cent to see, watch or read. And we hope that by communicating this message, that viewers will consider donating to our simple cause, to get the news out.

I'm sure there is a good chance that we will be thwarted, we have only made it this far by reducing our own lives through investment to this business and the endless seven day a week workout that is required to publish the news.

Like Google and Craigslist, this is a business that essentially was born in a garage, with two people, Bonnie King and myself, completely believing in a concept of news that is not being put under a microscope of political correctness before it is published. I'm telling you, it offers the cleanest and best prepared news that we have the ability to provide. Every week we add another contributor to the list, and news flows to our viewers from the U.S.,the African continent, Israel, Palestine, Mexico, England, Argentina, France, and from all over the U.S.

But we are tired of struggling. We want to be able to eventually pay our writers what they deserve. In the meanwhile they keep contributing because they know it is making a difference. It is sad that journalists running something of this magnitude, sometimes have to wonder where the next payment is coming from.

In the time that Bonnie and I have been doing this, we have truly seen and witnessed hard times. I have covered the wars overseas, exposed the contamination of a Marine Corps base where toxins have led to many deaths and terrible illnesses, many of which are hereditary. I know we have big battles coming up on that front, and even though we have 12 Marine Veterans on the staff of 59 writers, we need more, and we need to be able to wage this battle, instead of worrying about how to pay this month's rent.

So there you have it, we are in turbulent waters and if anyone cares, they can help by making a small donation, or a larger one if they prefer. Please don't let this six year old crusader for truth and what is right in the world, fade away.

For every "anon" who rides free on now-famed S-N open, honest, democratic channel, without slightest thought of contribution, here is the utmost of democratic contempt. The First Amendment is by far the greatest achievement of our Founding Fathers, and makes "all the rest" possible via its protection and its strength --when NOT abused ! Modern mass-media and esp. mid-stream corporate-managed, private-gain/driven "big ones" offer more threat to our real freedoms than any other one thing, in this 21st Century. We had best provide open, honest, democratic --AND LONG continuing !!-- demonstration here of channel devoted to that dialog "conversation" which John Dewey, world-famed philosopher-educator, termed "the heart of democracy."

To Anon (2)Just for clarification: Clinton robbed the social security fund to balance the budget, and was instrumental in outsourcing jobs. But thats nothing compared to signing into law the repeal of the glass steagle act, which opened the doors for the banks to take over, which they did. That is why now, Goldman Sachs is filthy rich, and the rest of us are broke. In any case, I plan to support Salem-news with the little I can afford, keep up the good work Tim and Bonnie.

It really makes me feel like sh*t because I suck at advertising... I guess even if I make 10 dead calls that's better than nothing. I need a better approach. If there's anything else I can help with besides advertising I would do better... I will give you a call in the next couple days, regardless, Tim. I still feel indebted for the Cheeseburger Bonnie so graciously paid for, when I talked to her about advertising. I think every person who believes in this site is personally responsible for it's fate.

I was floating after NPR became an organ for the government something like twenty years ago. Thank goodness that SN is not a radio-zine with pap made from crap but real stuff from real people. Everyone here has an obligation to keep SN afloat. .. A moral responsibility to pay these information warriors who won't settle for muzzles...not even when our own could use one in my opinion.

With the likes of Joe Leiberman, ( a 'democrat' by the way)..his latest legislation that has already been passed, will censor the internet. And with the senate/congress love for israel, or because they are being blackmailed by israel (probably the latter), this website will be one of the first to go. So, besides monetary help, people need to keep aware to keep this website up. And if you think I am over the top here, you might want to look how bp/obama have shut down most all media on the entire gulf coast. It WILL happen, and Salem-news is in jeopardy. The so called 'internet kill switch' is misleading. They cant shut down the internet. Commerce would come to a stand still. Its about censorship. Liebermans own words 'if China can do it, why cant we"? Keep aware, to keep websites such as salem-news online.

Staff for typical "go" like S-N should number at least 25, works for wise,deep,broad and accurate work only with even more... I;m amazed and gratified at what Tim/Bon have done. "Been there, done that", including to my sorrow a couple years with GOP-guru owner/publisher Bill Loeb in Burlington Vt. as low-spot in checkered career, esp. after United Press-Bsn. We did THREE dailies for that Vt.area in rickety old one-paper/plant, with motto for two up-Lake ones: "Today's news tomorrow --if you are lucky and the truck runs". Best move I ever made was to face Loeb to say "I Quit !" --and head for Oregon. He later fled to Manchester NH just ahead of state trooper after "domestic altercation", where he chivvied every Demo Presidential candidate for some years. Folo-quality demands time, effort, research, often travel and specialists --almost now impossible in economy, with Internet access only partial answer, as Op Eds have taught me here.

To anon; I thought I made it clear that I think the left/right is a hoax. People are waking up to it, and that is why I gave my opinion. SJ is not right wing, they just print what they are told, by the same people who told them what to print when bush was president. Both parties, left/right, are doing the same thing. Not sure how much clearer I can make it. We still have advanced wars, support for israel, big government, patriot act, etc etc..nothing changes, no matter the party..Do you understand now? My suggestion was to seek truth, not parties. Being part of a republican/democrat party, clouds the thought process for truth. Its obvious in your post that this is true.

The writer above, seems to be confused. So, let the left/right hoax be over...but do not blame Democrats for the "banking elite which is robbing us blind", If anything, we need an Independent third party. Pres. Clinton left the country in a stable condition. The following eight years of the Bush Administration brought this country to near collapse, a slide, which Pres. Obama has been unable to stop. The catastrophic flood and the recent oil disaster, shows that too many "irons are in the fire". Too many agency fumble for authority, while no one knows who actually is in charge. Blame it on the "Diversity of agencies" and a dysfunctional "government" who does not know how to take control. In my opinion, Salem News is doing a great job overall, just not following through on the social topics it choose to address,(besides the daily news). There is no follow through on those specific topics, leaving a vacuum for its readers, which seek independent and controversial news, that other news services not provide. "Hemp" should not be the only controversy, which favors continuity. Hang in there, you will make it. Maybe you need a good commercial advertising salesman.

i will send a few bucks for what you do for palestine, but you need to decide what you are going to promote on your website. the few bucks I send will not be even close to my suggestion. The left/right hoax is over, and if you continue to support the democrats, you are done, no matter how much money is sent to you.
